Municipal Solid Waste Collection and Haulage Modeling Design for Lahore, Pakistan: Transition toward Sustainability and Circular Economy

چکیده
Municipal solid waste management (MSWM) is a critical administrative, environmental and financial issue in low-income countries, such as Pakistan, where collection efficiency less than 75% all urban areas, except Lahore. Therefore, it pertinent to develop practical decision-making tools enhance by local municipalities companies (WMCs). A tool/calculator, holistically measure analyze forecast honestly (HMAFH), proposed for areas based on the lessons learned. The tool was developed considering conditions, i.e., business environment, socio-economic cultural dynamics, city infrastructure stakeholders’ desires. It flexible various modes, with heterogeneous fleet choices, presents an opportunity integrate material recovery facility (MRF) or direct haulage disposal site. HMAFH tested successfully Lahore district. Based scenarios, result shows of up 33% defining dedicated streams 26% saving fuel. interventions can prove be step toward building circular economy (CE) that allows integration treatment options economic potential account 35% current operating expenditures reduction greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission, 1,604,019 tons CO2-eq./annum.

Municipal Solid Waste and its Relation with Groundwater Contamination in Lahore, Pakistan
Solid waste dumping sites always pose serious environmental problems on air, soil, surface water and groundwater. Landfill leachate contains thousands of complex components and become part of groundwater after infiltration. Vicinity communities are comparatively more affected through hazard activities. Generally, it is regarded as global issue but problems are more sever in developing countries...
متن کاملGenetic Algorithms for Municipal Solid Waste Collection and Routing Optimization
In the present paper, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used for the identification of optimal routes in the case of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) collection. The identification of a route for MSW collection trucks is critical since it has been estimated that, of the total amount of money spent for the collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste, approximately 60-80% is spent on the colle...
متن کاملEnvironmental and Economic Evaluation of Municipal Solid Waste Management using WAGS Model – Air Pollutant Emission and Fuel Economy in Waste Collection Sector
Solid waste collection, transfer and transportation (SWCTT) is a fundamental component of solid waste management systems that contributes to both the costs and environmental emissions associated with managing solid waste. The objective of this study is to project the fuel consumption and fuel costs of SWCTT in Tehran from 2018 to 2032. A further objective is to evaluate the air pollutant emissi...
متن کاملSubregion districting analysis for municipal solid waste collection privatization.
Privatization of municipal solid waste (MSW) collection can improve service quality and reduce cost. To reduce the risk of an incapable company serving an entire collection area and to establish a competitive market, a large collection area should be divided into two or more subregions, with each subregion served by a different company. The MSW subregion districting is generally done manually, ...
